A free neighborhood report for your shop
See who lives around your shop and what's changing nearby.
You know your shop. The block around it is another story. Type your business and address, and your free Market Profile shows who lives nearby, the competition, what the area spends, and how it's changing. Then, if you want, customers can tell you what they're missing with one anonymous tap.
Free. Takes about a minute. We review requests as we open each area, and you'll usually hear back within a day.
What you get
Your free demographics and competitor report, in seconds
Who actually lives around you, who's nearby during the workday, the businesses in your category, estimated demand where Census data covers what you sell, and how the area is changing. Consultants charge thousands for this report. Yours is free.
Hear it from your own customers, one tap at a time
Put a Basly card by your register. Customers answer one question in one tap, or one quick line if they have more to say. No app, no account. Results stay private to you, and pooled comparisons never reveal any single shop.
Ask your own AI, with your neighborhood already loaded
If you ask ChatGPT or Claude business questions, connect Basly and your AI finally knows your neighborhood. Answers come from your block and your customers, not the internet's guess.
How it works
Request access
Tell us your business, category, and ZIP. Takes about a minute, and access is free.
Build your Market Profile
Type your business and location. Demographics, competition, and estimated local demand, in seconds.
Turn on customer answers, if you want
Print your one-tap card, put it where customers wait, and see what your customers actually think, privately.
Where the numbers come from
Your Market Profile is built from the U.S. Census, Foursquare's places data, and licensed public sources. The same raw material market consultants use. Every figure shows its source and whether it's counted or estimated. When a number is modeled, we say estimated, because it is.
Your data stays yours
Your results are private to you. No competitor ever sees your numbers. Customer answers are anonymous by design: no name, no email, no identity attached. Comparisons with shops like yours appear only when enough businesses participate that no single shop can be identified. And we never sell responses, lists, or leads. To anyone.
Built for the person whose name is on the lease
Basly is for owner-operators of customer-facing local businesses: barbershops, salons, cafés, restaurants, gyms, repair shops, independent retail. If you cut the hair, pour the coffee, or close the register yourself, this was built for you. Weighing a second location? Compare neighborhoods before you sign anything.
Why is this free?
Basly's model is simple: the places that depend on local businesses sponsor the data, not the owners. Cities and districts see area totals, never any shop's private numbers. You get your neighborhood data free.
Questions owners ask
How do I get a free demographics report for my business address?
Request access, then type your business and address. Basly builds a free Market Profile of the roughly 3 miles your customers come from: who lives there, who works there during the day, household incomes and ages. All from U.S. Census and licensed public data. No card, no report fee, no trial that expires.
Who are my competitors near me? Will Basly show ones I don't know about?
Your Market Profile maps the businesses in your category across your trade area, the few miles most of your customers come from. Listings come from Foursquare places data and licensed public records, usually more than you'd find on Google Maps yourself. Places data is never perfect, so every listing shows where it came from.
Is my area oversaturated with barbershops, salons, or shops like mine?
Basly answers that with numbers instead of a gut feeling: the count of competitors in your trade area next to the estimated demand for your category. Estimated means modeled from public data, and we label it that way. It's the same Census and spending data consultants use for paid feasibility studies.
How much do people spend on haircuts or eating out in my area?
Your Market Profile includes estimated local spending for your category, modeled from public data and always labeled estimated, never dressed up as actual transactions. Where Census data doesn't cover your category or area, your profile says not available instead of guessing.
I haven't opened yet and I'm comparing two neighborhoods. Is Basly for me?
Yes. Type the business you're planning and each location you're considering. You'll see who lives there, who's around during the workday, the existing competition, and estimated demand. Compare two neighborhoods with real numbers before you sign a lease.
Why do I have to request access instead of just signing up? Is it really free?
It's really free. Basly's model is that the places that depend on local businesses sponsor the data, not the owners. Access is by request because Basly opens one area at a time: the shops-like-yours comparisons only mean something when enough nearby businesses participate. Requesting takes about a minute, and you'll usually hear back within a day.
What if my area isn't open yet?
Request access anyway. Basly opens one area at a time. If yours isn't open yet, we'll hold your request and email you when it opens.
See your neighborhood the way a consultant would show it to you. Free.
Free. Takes about a minute. We review requests as we open each area, and you'll usually hear back within a day.
